A-1 Freeman Salutes Service Members

Salute to Service

Michael Hayes spent 6 years in the U.S. military, serving in the U.S. Air Force and the Oklahoma Air National Guard, but upon transitioning to civilian life, he was left feeling unsatisfied.

Hayes joined the Air Force in 1994 with the goal to work as a Military Police Officer. Military life allowed Hayes to garner a real sense of camaraderie and teamwork, but unfortunately it limited the time he had to spend with his family. After 6 years of service, Hayes left the U. S. Air Force in 2000. He settled down in OKC and again began working in the information technology industry.

Hayes had a tricky time finding the right transition into the workforce that he would ultimately enjoy. Until, that is, a friend told Hayes about the positive work experience he had at A-1 Freeman.

“After leaving the military I had a job that was stressful,” said Hayes in a recent interview. “I was looking to do something less corporate, where I could really use my skills. I came here to work at A-1 Freeman, because it was more of a friendly environment, low-pressure, family oriented.”

Hayes started at A-1 Freeman in 2014 and began working in the information technology department as a Systems Administrator. “One of my roles in the Air Force was Fire Team Leader, I had to keep track of various supplies, resources and the training of my individuals. The organization that I used for that role has definitely helped me in my role here at A-1 Freeman.”

A-1 Freeman is proud to have veterans from every branch that work with us every day. We want to thank each of them for their service, and we are happy to be able to provide careers and opportunities for our veterans to be supported here at home. Michael’s story is just one of many at our company. Take a moment to hear from some of our veterans. If you find yourself in the middle of the transition from the military to civilian work, please consider a career with A-1 Freeman. We’ll be happy to talk to you about how to translate your experience from the military to opportunities for success with our company.
