When Does Moving Your Appliances Make Sense?

Residential MovingBy Julie DeLong, A-1 Freeman Moving Group

When you watch home buying shows on TV, you often hear the question, "Do the appliances come with it?" If it's a new build construction home, this certainly makes sense but what if the buyers are looking at a more established home? In some parts of the country, this is a standard practice of bringing your appliances to your new residence while in other parts of the country, it wouldn't even cross your mind. Here are some situations where you might consider having your moving company move your appliances to your new location.

Appliances are Old and Out of Date in Your New Home

If you are moving into an older home, in need of renovation, you might talk to your professional mover about bringing your current appliances with you. In some cases, older, out of date kitchens may not have ovens that work to their full capacity or an older washer or dryer may not perform like your current ones do. In these cases, moving your current ones is a no brainer. While you may not keep these appliances in the long run, it does give you time to do your homework and determine which ones you would like to have in your newly renovated space.

Your Current Appliances are Brand New

Often when you are preparing your home to sell, your realtor may suggest purchasing newer appliances to help the home show better or you may have had an incident that required you to purchase a new appliance even though you knew you were going to be putting your home on the market in a matter of months. In either case, if you purchased a new appliance, and that one is remarkably better than the one installed in your new location, this may be a time when moving it with you is the best course of action.

You are In Love with Your...

We have all been there. We found the refrigerator of our dreams, the one that makes shopping lists for us, or the noiseless dishwasher that you can run while the baby is sleeping? It only took how many years to find the appliance of your dreams and now you must move? Moving does not mean that you must leave what you love behind. Before committing to bringing the love of your life with you, be sure that it fits into the intended space and that the proper hook ups are available. There is no use in moving a gas stove with you if there is no gas line hook up in your new home or the big, gorgeous refrigerator if it doesn't fit. Plan ahead.

Things to remember before making the big move.

  • Be sure that all the appliances are unplugged and disconnected from water and gas lines, and those lines are properly capped.
  • Clean and dry all your appliances thoroughly before the professional movers arrive. This step is particularly important if you are planning on storing them before moving into your new home. This will help to avoid any mold or unpleasant odors.
  • Measure, measure, measure. The worst thing that can happen is that you plan for your new appliance to come with you and it doesn't fit when you get there.

Bringing your appliances doesn't have to be a hassle as long as you prepare ahead of time. A-1 Freeman Moving Group is an experienced professional moving company, so leave the heavy lifting to us. And, if there are appliances already in place, be sure to schedule a pickup by a local donation organization or if the appliance is no longer in proper working order, schedule a special trash pickup.

Best. Move. Ever!
Very pleased with the overall respect and care the men gave to my possessions. Even mailing me very quickly the only thing lost in transit. Would recommend to anyone needing a long distant move.
