Transportation Management System (TMS)
STI is continually seeking to improve and upgrade our information technology capabilities. As an example, STI continues to expand functionality of our Transportation Management System (TMS) which is based upon the optimization engine from Insight, Inc.
The STI TMS solution provides planning capabilities including real-time reporting of status, exceptions, and opportunities for improvement throughout STI's entire network of managed carriers, shipments, and customer orders. Through this solution, STI provides optimized delivery schedules and loads, elimination of redundant delivery routes, and improves the efficiency of supply chain planning throughout the transportation and logistics services process.
The results have been improved customer satisfaction and productivity. Should problems present themselves, we can then immediately develop and execute alternate plans. This will further assist us in ensuring that customers receive the best service possible while remaining informed about the status of their shipments.
The STI TMS solution enables collaborative support with carriers' and customers' supply chain models. This capability not only improves execution of plans, but also enables us to offer intelligent alternatives to increase customers' profitability while enabling them to maintain or improve service levels to their customers.
Transportation Management Overview
TMS supports all the activities necessary to manage and execute the full life cycle of the transportation process - from customer service and order management to financial settlement. TMS is designed for third-party logistics providers who deal with both shippers and carriers. TMS has been designed from the ground up as a true open system application. The use of a proven client/server architecture and object-oriented technology ensures that the application will be durable, scalable, and platform-independent. This technology makes it possible to centralize core transportation data, and then decentralize the execution of individual plans by creating workflows and processes unique to the requirements of specific business units.
Our TMS encompasses the Insight optimizer which is a decision support application that analyzes possible alternatives and delivers a cost effective, executable transportation plan. Insight optimizer uses sophisticated solving techniques and client data to automatically consolidate shipments, optimize delivery routes, calculate actual carrier and transfer costs, and dynamically select carriers and pool points all with the goal of minimizing overall freight costs.
